Hi! I’m Crystal, a writer, marketer, activist, and parent. I work as the marketing director for a large restaurant group and in my “spare time,” I read and write about children’s books.
As a feminist mom to three white sons, I spend a lot of time thinking about how I can raise my privileged kids to be good humans. I want my boys to be kind, empathetic people who understand that equality for everyone benefits everyone.
I believe that one of the best tools we have for raising empathetic kids is children’s literature. Diverse books show kids like mine that there is more to the world than what they experience.
For children who are underrepresented in books and media, diversity in kid lit is even more important. Diverse books show these children who they are, and what they can become.
In my eight years as an educator, I saw firsthand how books can transform young hearts and minds. And now, after a decade of being a mom, I am seeing how seeds books planted in the toddler and preschool years are growing and changing my children for the better.

If you are striving to raise kids that are kind, empathetic, and inclusive, this is the place for you. Our ever-growing library of book lists covers a wide range of topics, with the hopes that no matter the situation, you’ll be able to find a wide array of diverse books that will meet your needs. Our weekly newsletter shares parenting tips and the things I’ve learned on my imperfect journey as a feminist, activist mom. And our Facebook Group provides a great place to talk to other parents and find awesome book recommendations.
Parenting in this day and age is hard, scary, and at times totally overwhelming. But you don’t have to walk this road alone. I believe that if we work together, we can raise the next generation to be world-changers. I’d love to walk alongside you on your journey and share the resources that have helped me along the way.
