Bookish Travels: Conner Prairie Headless Horseman

Fall is my favorite season, and, of course, my favorite fall event has a literary theme. I never miss the Conner Prairie Headless Horseman Hayride and Celebration.

The Conner Prairie Headless Horseman festival is a yearly tradition for our family, and it has something for everyone.

Conner Prairie is a living museum just north of Indianapolis, Indiana. I’ve been visiting Conner Prairie since I was a child, and it’s one of my absolute favorite places to spend time with my family.

The highlight of the event is the Headless Horseman Hayride. Visitors take a hayride through the Conner Prairie grounds, and encounter some spooky surprises along the way! The later you go on the hayride, the scarier the experience.

But the hayride isn’t the only fun part of the Conner Prairie Headless Horseman event. There are so many other things to enjoy!

Headless Horseman also features games, karaoke, delicious food, and musical activities. A favorite of ours are the music-making tent, where kids can enjoy playing a wide variety of percussion instruments. Another must-see at Headless Horseman is the hilarious puppet show from Steven’s Puppets!

The Headless Horseman celebration truly has something for everyone, no matter their age or “scare level.” I recommend arriving early, dressing for the weather, and warming up with a hot beverage while you ‘re there.

Headless Horseman happens every October at Conner Prairie, and you can find more information about it here. Thanks to the wonderful folks at Conner Prairie for hosting us this year!
