Meet an Author, Be an Author at the Indianapolis Public Library

Among today’s young readers are the next generation of authors. Encouraging young people to write about the things they love can help them grow in to better communicators, and perhaps even help them find their life’s calling.

On October 14, the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award will be given to honor Hoosier Authors that have made their mark on the literary scene, as well as emerging literary talents. The library has special Meet An Author, Be An Author events planned at the Central Library branch that are designed to inspire the next generation of amazing authors. You won’t want to miss these!

Meet An Author Be An Author

Meet An Author, Be An Author!

From 10:15 to 11:15 a.m., there’s a Flash Memoir Workshop for families, located in the Learning Curve Arena. Attendees will learn how to put together small memories to make a family history. The first thirty guests will get a free journal! This event is open to all ages, and is a great thing to work on with the entire family.

Meet An Author Be An Author

From 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Learning Curve Research Central, kids can learn about making a zine! I was super into zines in the 90s, so I love that this medium is making a comeback. Attendees will learn all about creating their own zine around something that interests them.

Both of these events are totally FREE and guaranteed to be lots of fun. Learn more about these events and others here!

Honored Authors

Two of the authors being honored this year write books for children and youth! You’ll definitely want to check out these books for your middle grade readers:

Robyn Hoodlum Series

The Robyn Hoodlum Series by Kekla Magoon — I read the first book in this series, and it was such an enjoyable story. A young girl named Robyn Loxley is on her own after her parents disappear. She joins with a band of misfits to fight against her city’s new harsh government and find her parents. This twist on the classic Robyn Hood series is great for both kids and adults.

Sidekicked

Sidekicked by John David Anderson — Fans of superhero stories are going to love this book! Middle school is rough, even when you’re a kid with super powers. Andrew Bean has super senses, and is training to be a superhero sidekick. He struggles with his school, his mentor, and his powers. But when a supervillain comes back on the scene, Drew’s abilities are truly tested.
