Thank you so much to Abbeville Press for the opportunity to review this book. The people at Abbeville are wonderful, and their books are first rate.
Are You Sleeping Little One? is a rhyming bedtime tale. It shows animals of all kinds snuggling up with a parent for a peaceful night sleep. It closes on the image of a mother and child, cuddling together in bed: “And are you sleeping, my little one? Snuggling with me when the day is done?”
My oldest son asks for this book almost every night; he calls it “the duck book.” It’s a charming story with truly adorable illustrations of adult and baby animal pairs (done by Andrea Nemet). Both of my boys love the cadence of the rhyming text, and they enjoy pointing out all of the different kinds of animals. My youngest thinks all of the animals in the book say “Baa!” but we’re working on that one! This book reinforces the love that parents have for their children, while showing all different kinds of animals, from flamingos to sloths.
I definitely recommend this book to parents of young children. It has become a bedtime favorite for us. My review copy is a digital one, but it’s published in board book format so it will stand up to multiple readings from little hands. If you’re looking for a quality board book, or a new story for your bedtime routine, Are You Sleeping Little One? is a great choice.
