Thank you to Tanglewood Press (here in my home state of Indiana!) for the opportunity to review this book.
Chester Raccoon is learning his colors, and he’s bringing his forest friends along for the fun in Audrey Penn’s A Color Game for Chester Raccoon. In this rhyming story, Chester and his friends find things of all different colors in nature, and they challenge readers to do the same.
My two boys joined me as I read this book. My oldest has his colors down, but my youngest is only 18 months and is just now getting introduced to learning colors. We had a great time playing the color game along with Chester and his friends, and my older son really enjoyed helping his younger find all of the colors. The book ends with a call to action for the reader: what colors can YOU find in the world around you? We had a great time continuing the color game around our house. My older son especially enjoyed finding things around the house for me to guess by color. This book not only taught colors, it helped my boys take a closer look at the world around them.
One of the signs of a great children’s book is that it produces opportunities for learning after the book is closed. That is what I really enjoyed about A Color Game for Chester Raccoon. It got my kids to talk about and continue to learn about colors after the book was done. If you have a toddler or preschooler who is learning about colors, this is a great book for your child, with a great game to play! I would recommend checking out Audrey Penn’s other Chester Raccoon books as well.
A Color Game for Chester Raccoon is 14 pages long and is published by Tanglewood Press. Tanglewood has a great website, I highly recommend checking it out.
